Selling thru iTunes

QUESTION
------------------------------------------------------
Hello Scott,
Thank you for the info in iTunes Exposed. I just joined up yesterday and
read the info today. Some exciting stuff. I did have a few questions though:
1. I thought there would be more than one outlet given in the information
that we could submit videos through. There only seems to be CD Baby. Is this
correct or will the others listed handle videos too?

2. I am a bit confused about what you are saying about selling product
through iTunes. Can you clarify? Do we sell our videos etc. thru iTunes or
not? Or are you recommending only using them for podcasts and driving people
to our own web sites for products? And if the latter is true, why do we need
the contact info for the distribution networks you list?

3. This is related to the first 2 questions: not sure if I can sign up
directly through iTunes for product sales or not. I probably missed that
part of your talk but are you saying that an individual cannot sell thru
iTunes, they must use one of the providers you list in the infromation to go
through?

Thanks,
Anthony

All distributors handle Video. They distribute your content to many
more online stores than iTunes as well. Amazon MP3, Rhapsody,
Wall-Mart's online store and others.

Yes. You sell your audios and video thru iTunes

No

The distribution networks are the only way to get your audio or video
listed in iTunes. iTunes won't talk to you or me.

So by signing up with one of the distributors, they get you into iTunes.

No one can. Only large music labels and a small number of
'granfathered' distributors.

Exactly :^)

So the process is use the distributor you prefer to get you into
iTunes. The agreement with them is non-exclusive so you don't have to
worry about selling your audios or videos yourself or on a website.

Then use podcasting to get more exposure for your products.

Since iTunes takes 20% and the distributor (variable - up to 10%), it
makes sense to continue to sell off your web site and any traffic
generation you do like article marketing, SEO, PPC, blogging social
media, you are better off driving to your web site. Keep in mind that
most affiliates take 50-60% so iTunes is 'cheap' that way :^)

And the reach you have using both systems basically doubles when you
add the online stores like iTunes, Amazon MP3, etc.

Hope that helps and thanks for the questions, I will make sure I am
clearer on these issues moving forward!
Scott
